Admission Requirements

With the recommendation of the unit, direct entry Ph.D. admission is available to exceptionally strong students, who show great promise in terms of academic accomplishments and potential for research.

  • Language Proficiency Requirements: Proof of English proficiency may be required for international applicants and for applicants whose first language is not English.
  • Professional degree in a relevant health sciences field (D.M.D., DDS, M.D., RN, PT, or equivalent), from a recognized university-
  • a cumulative weighted average of at least a 80% in the last two years of study (i.e. 60 credit units of course work)
  • demonstrated ability for independent thought, advanced study, and independent research

Note: Additional application documents include three letters of reference, curriculum vitae, and a statement of academic intent.

Indigenous Applicants
One admission space is reserved for qualified, self-identified First Nations, Metis, or Inuit applicant.

Female Applicants
Three to four admission spaces will be reserved for qualified female applicants.

Degree Requirements

Students must maintain continuous registration in the 996 course.

  • At least 9 credit units of course work at the graduate level must be successfully completed within the first year of the program.
  • GPS 960.0
  • GPS 961.0, if research involves human subjects
  • GPS 962.0, if research involves animal subjects

Students must complete a minimum of 15 credit units including:

  • DENT 803.3
  • DENT 805.2
  • DENT 801.3
  • DENT 802.3
  • DENT 804.3
  • DENT 806.2
  • DENT 990.0
  • DENT 996.0
  • Based on the Advisory Committee recommendations POSH graduate students may also take any other graduate level course offered by the University of Saskatchewan graduate programs.  

All students must maintain continuous registration in the following courses:  

  • DENT 990.0 Seminar 
  • DENT 996.0 Research 

In addition to the course work requirements and completing a research project, all students must also complete the following: 

  • Doctoral candidacy assessment
  • Oral dissertation defense
