Double Honours Programs may be taken in combinations of two subjects. In this program at least 36 credit units will normally be taken in each subject.  For further details, please see the Academic Information and Policies section.

Students who wish to complete a Double Honours in Mathematics and Statistics must follow the requirements for that specific combination of disciplines, listed separately on this page.

Of the requirements listed in Major 2, some courses (usually 6 credit units) may be used to fulfill Requirements 1 to 3 of Major 1. If this happens, the result will be that the number of Open Electives in Requirement 5 will be increased accordingly to continue to require a total of 120 credit units for the Double Honours degree.

The major average for Statistics as Major 2 will be calculated using the grades earned in all MATH and all STAT courses.

Students must complete at least two-thirds of the Major 2 program requirements (to the nearest highest multiple of 3 credit units) from the University of Saskatchewan to meet the mandatory residency requirement.

Requirements (42 credit units)

  • MATH 110.3 or MATH 176.3
  • MATH 116.3 or MATH 177.3
  • MATH 276.3
  • MATH 402.0
  • STAT 241.3
  • STAT 242.3*
  • STAT 341.3
  • STAT 342.3
  • STAT 442.3
  • STAT 443.3

MATH 402.0 is not required for students completing CMPT 400.3 as part of their Major 1 requirements.

*Though not recommended, another course from list a or one each from list b and c from the Statistics Course Regulations may be used in lieu of STAT 242. In the case that a student takes another course(s) to meet this requirement, the other course(s) will be used toward fulfillment of the Major 1 requirements (if eligible) or the Electives Requirement, and the student will be required to replace STAT 242 in the Statistics Major 2 Requirements with another senior course as approved by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Students in the latter situation should meet with a Department advisor as early in their program as possible.
