Please note that no new students will be accepted into this program this year.
The Language Teacher Education Program (LTEP) prepares educators to teach Cree or French educational programming in immersion, bilingual, intensive, and core settings. The Cree stream is designed with a focus on Early Years (Prekindergarten to Grade 3) learners and the French stream focuses on Early/Middle Years (Prekindergarten to Grade 8) learners.
Teacher candidates will enrol in language teaching area and methodology courses in Cree or French, as well as coursework that focuses on teaching in second language settings. They will also engage in field experiences that support their development as practicing professionals in school systems where second-language programs (immersion, bilingual and core) are currently delivered or in the development stages.
This diverse, one-of-a kind program creates space for teacher candidates to learn in English, French and Indigenous language settings, as well as spaces where language learners come together across language groups to focus on language revitalization and culture.
