Active research is being pursued in the following fields: geochemistry,mineralogy, igneous and metamorphic petrology, mineral deposits,sedimentology, structural geology, paleontology (including invertebrate and vertebrate paleontology, ichnology, palynology and palaeobotany),stratigraphy, history of geology, applied geophysics (including seismology and gravity and electrical methods), hydrogeology, and environmental geology.
In order to promote opportunities for research, the department maintains close ties with other science and engineering departments, the National Water Research Institute, the Saskatchewan Research Council, the Saskatchewan Geological Survey, and various resource and exploration companies.
